Kola- Norwegians meet in Vardø. Some enthusiasts keep the tradition alive.
Lilly Jørstad is training to become an opera-singer. Her grandmother, also called Lilly Jørstad, was born in Tsypnavolok in 1932, but now lives in Vadsø.
Leif Schanche was “the Kola – Norwegian who became leader of the Norwegian king’s guard”. He has written a history of his family. His mother Magna Øien was born in Uraguba, however her family later moved to Tsypnavolok, where Thoralf Schanche came to stay with them to learn about Russia. Magna and Thoralf married and settled in Kola town, where they started a trading company and also ran a cinema. Leif was born in Kola town, but moved with his mother and sisters to Trondheim in 1917.
